Feeding the Village First - topic of discussion led by Terry Jacobson.
- Was held Tuesday, October 27 and Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at the Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library in Bismarck, North Dakota.
This was an opportunity for thought provoking dialogue regarding locally grown versus global imports, nutritional versus chemical laden products, self reliant versus dependence plus communication among consumers, producers and farmers.
Northern Plains Sustainable Agriculture Society (for over 30 years, a non-profit committed to the promotion of ecologically sound, socially just and economically viable food systems) is grateful to the Archibald & Edith Bush foundation in providing funding for these presentations. Additional support came from St. John’s Lutheran Church of Jamestown, FARRMS of Medina, ND and Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library.

Local Foods and the New (Old) Economy
Why Eat Local? How To Eat Local and Local Foods and the New (Old) Economy was the topics of discussion lead by Steven Dahlberg of White Earth Tribal College in the coming weeks at Probstfield Center for Education at 2410 14th Street, Moorhead, Minnesota.
For over 30 years, Northern Plains Sustainable Agriculture Society (NPSAS) has been an experienced non-profit organization committed to the promotion of ecologically sound, socially just and economically viable food systems. NPSAS is grateful to the Archibald & Edith Bush foundation in providing funding and Moorhead Community Education provides additional support for these thought provoking dialogues. In Dahlberg words, “[NPSAS] has undertaken a major initiative to promote the local food movement in our region.”

2009 South Dakota Organic Farm Tour
Sept. 8-9
Sept. 10-11
Sept. 14-15
Northern Plains Sustainable Ag Society (NPSAS), based out of LaMoure, N.D., in collaboration with Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS), Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education (SARE) and North Central RC & D Association, Inc. hosted three organic farm bus tours throughout South Dakota for this event.
The tour options that were available:
- Sept. 8-9 starting in Rapid City, S.D.
- Sept. 10-11 starting in Sioux Falls, S.D.
- Sept. 14-15 starting in Mobridge, S.D.
NPSAS invited conventional farmers who are thinking of switching to organic methods of farming to come on the bus tour. The mission was to give conventional producers a chance to connect with organic producers who have switched and experienced success.
