"Switching to a Sustainable System" by Fred Kirshenmann ($10.00 postpaid)
This booklet is written for farmers who are contemplating a switch from a conventional / chemical to a sustainable / organic farming system. Farmers who do not wish to change to a sustainable system but are seeking ways to reduce their chemical inputs may also find some of this information helpful. The main purpose of the booklet is to help farmers, who wish to do so, make the transition to alternative agriculture with a minimum of risk. This alternative approach relies on a management system that uses natural soil-building routines and crop rotation schemes, instead of synthetic inputs, as the principle means of crop and livestock production. "Big Thoughts from a Small Farmer" poems by Terry Jacobson ($15.00 postpaid)
NPSAS Poet Laureate Terry Jacobson has published his second collection of poetry, Big Thoughts from a Small Farmer. After years of the poems riding around in the toolbox of his tractor, Terry has dusted off the topsoil and polished up his work to be shared.

The book is an eclectic mix of passionate cries for justice, compassion for others, joyful appreciation of nature and more. The poems have received positive reviews from those who are poetic connoisseurs as well as those who usually don't read poetry.

"This book covers some of the toughest times in my life as a farmer," explains Jacobson. "In difficult times it's good to be reminded there are good, positive things happening in farming. I hope these poems reveal some of the soul of family farm agriculture that has lived through generations of people on the land."

Terry and his wife, Janet, operate a diverse organic farm near Wales, ND raising small grains, oilseeds, beef cattle, sheep, and an "Old McDonald" assortment of farm animals.

Terry has generously offered to sell his collection through NPSAS as a fundraiser. Big Thoughts from a Small Farmer can be ordered from NPSAS or directly from Terry at 9173 95th St. NE, Wales, ND 58281 for $15.00 including postage. Mail-order Form
