An overview of the practice of sustainable agriculture and of specific concerns are the economic, environmental and social effects of a shift to sustainable agriculture in eight Northwestern states. Sustainable agriculture applies ecological techniques to harness the profitability of the land, while ensuring that its environmental features are protected and preserved. The report prescribes that management systems and technology be improved if sustainable agriculture is to compete successfully with traditional agriculture.
