Seeking Women for Sustainability Ambassador
We’re excited to be part of an effort to help inspire women to tell the story of women in agriculture through the Stewardship Ambassador program. Do you have various experiences with conservation practices (e.g. CRP, cover crops, etc.) on your farm? Do you want to help other women gain the knowledge and confidence to take conservation action on their land? If so, this opportunity is for you!
If the following sounds like you, you’re the type of woman we’re seeking to step up and serve as one of the Stewardship Ambassadors:
1) You want to tell your conservation story,
2) You’re open to talk with the media, and
3) You want training on tips and tools to prepare you for speaking to a range of audiences.
Ambassadors (ideally 3 in North Dakota and 3 in South Dakota) will be asked to speak to small or large groups of women landowners and others to share their expertise and engage other women in conversations about conservation. For your time, stipends will be provided for these speaking engagements. Landowners with experience with and/or interest in land access and equity considerations with land ownership and growing food are encouraged to participate. If you’re interested in this opportunity to empower others, please let NPSAS know today. If you’d like more information, email Krysti Mikkonen.
Field Day Organic Transition in Menoken, MN
The organic farming industry has become a $55 billion industry in the U.S. and there are many new market opportunities in organic agriculture. If you are interested in organic farming or ranching, transitioning to organic, or in the three-year transition phase, this event is for you!
This field day will be hosted at Menoken Farm, a conservation demonstration farm, as well as an organic wheat farm, Dockter Organics. We will finish up the day at a networking event that includes a taco bar and hearing about another farmer’s journey into organic.
You will have the incredible opportunity to learn from Jay Fuhrer and Darrell Oswald and others at the Menoken Farm, Thane Dockter, a successful large-scale organic producer, Nic Podoll, an agronomist with Rodale Institute, and more! The day will close with Jonathan Moser, an area organic farmer.
The field day will include field walks, soil pit demonstrations, sessions on organic agronomy, soil health, marketing, certification, and lessons from those who have gone through the transition to organic.
You don’t want to miss this!
This event is free, but please only register if you plan to attend. If you register and do not attend, others may miss the opportunity to participate due to limited capacity.
If you are unable to attend, but would like to be on a mailing list for future events and information on organic farming, please subscribe to our newsletters here:
